Newhaven Lifeboat was tasked by HM Coastguard to assist local coastguard teams and Sussex Police in the search for a missing female.
Following concerns for the woman’s safety, Newhaven’s relief Severn Class lifeboat ‘RNLB Daniel L Gibson’ and her volunteer crew were launched at 5.15pm on August 13.
The lifeboat was requested to search from the East pier at the entrance to Newhaven harbour to Splash point in Seaford. To ensure a thorough search, the Severn class launched its daughter boat, an inflatable ‘Y’ class.
With two crew on board and working in conjunction with the Severn class, a thorough search was conducted of Seaford Bay.
Having exhausted this search, both lifeboats were requested to continue east towards Hope Gap and the Severn Sisters.
Just as the lifeboats were approaching the fourth sister continuing their search, it was confirmed that local coastguard teams had located the missing female.
The lifeboat was stood down and once refuelled was ready for service at 6.55pm.
