Lifesaving display off Pagham

MARINE casualties will be rescued in the latest annual display of lifesaving off Pagham tomorrow (Wednesday, June 22).

The RNLI has organised the event to showcase the skills and dedication of its volunteers.

They will be called into action, weather permitting, from 6pm tomorrow in the sea in front of Pagham Yacht Club.

A dinghy with two coastguards aboard will be cast adrift.

Lifeboat crews from Selsey and Littlehampton will respond to the alarm and stop the individuals from being harmed.

It is hoped the coastguard helicopter from Lee-on-the-Solent will also be present to winch the two individuals in the dinghy to safety.

RNLI volunteer Mike Cole said: “This will be the sixth display I have organised at Pagham.

“They are always popular and successful occasions.

“We raised well over £500 in our bucket collection last year to mean there must have been several hundred people there.

“The money we collect goes to Selsey lifeboat station which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.

“The event also gives people the chance to meet and talk to the lifeboat crews after the rescue.”

Pagham Yacht Club hosts a barbecue for the evening and will open its West Front Road premises to non-members.
