Lifesaving kit on industrial estate in Uckfield

Although charities, community groups and town GPs have worked hard to ensure defibrillators are installed in accessible places throughout the District, there are few available for workers on industrial estates or business parks.

Now 21st Century Internet Ltd, based on the Bellbrook industrial estate in Uckfield has acquired a defibrillator, firstly for its own employees but also for people who share the industrial estate with them.

Company spokesman Hannah Rowsell said these essential lifesaving pieces of equipment could help save the lives of any of the hundreds of employees who work on the estate.

She said sudden cardiac arrest sufferers risk a 93 per cent death rate if the victim does not get to a hospital quickly and no public defibrillator is available.

According to the British Heart Foundation, every minute that goes by without treatment after a heart attack decreases the victim’s chance of survival by 10 per cent.

Hannah said: “We want to let our defibrillator be used, if needed, by businesses on the industrial estate, and to promote awareness that we carry such a machine in our office.”

She told the Express:“This small piece of kit could save the lives of any of the hundreds of employees who work daily on the Bellbrook industrial estate.”

Imaginative ideas have led to defibrillators being installed throughout local villages including one in a disused telephone box in the middle of Waldron and village halls in Framfield and Blackboys.
