Line-up announced for WordFest Look, Stranger

Through a creative mixture of poetry and jazz Benjamin Britten’s centenary will be celebrated, exploring some of his best work.

The performance is part of the year-long celebrations of Britten’s centenary, and features poems by W.H Auden including the famous ‘Stop All tThe Clocks’.

Singer Ruth Culver and her UtterJazz quartet will be adding swing, funk, samba, blues and grooves to Britten’s most popular pieces.

Alex Jennings, best known for playing Prince Charles in The Queen, is performing for the only Sussex date of the Arts Council funded UK tour.

He was also part of The Wings of Dove with Helena Bonham Carter and his TV roles include the Rev Hutton in Cranford and he is currently filming series three of Silk for ITV.

Rosalind Turner, WordFest, said: “I am absolutely thrilled that Shoreham WordFest is bringing such a high quality event as part of our third annual festival. The music and singing of Ruth and UtterJazz are sublime and to have Alex Jennings, such a high profile actor, reading W. H Auden’s poetry is quite a coup.

“The event combines my own love of Auden’s poetry and Benjamin Britten’s music. I couldn’t have asked for more.”
