Link road campaigners go national

PROTESTERS intent on stopping the Bexhill to Hastings Link Road from being built have joined a campaign network run by a national newspaper.

Campaigner Derrick Coffee, of the Hastings Alliance, signed up to the Guardian's Piece by Piece forum, which showcases "groups working to save biodiversity from ill-conceived development".

On the paper's website, the Save Combe Haven Valley campaign says the proposed 100 million link road would destroy ancient woodland and damage habitats.

"The campaign was trailed for a while, and I thought, here's an opportunity to expose the scheme and its importance to the wider audience," said Derrick. "I thought it would be a useful thing for our cause."

A county council spokesman said: "We are waiting for final confirmation from central government of the funding toward the Bexhill to Hastings Link Road."
