Link road work can start now

Work on the Bexhill to Hastings link road can start now East Sussex County Council has been given a final green light by the Government.

Approval was granted this week by Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin for the controversial development to start.

Under the scheme ESCC will construct a 3.5 mile single carriageway road between the A259 in Sidley and Queensway in St Leonards. As well as improving accessibility between Bexhill and Hastings, the road will allow the development of North East Bexhill – the largest single development site in the area.

Patrick McLoughlin commented: “This scheme will kickstart economic regeneration in a deprived area of the South East and tackle problems of accessibility between the towns of Bexhill and Hastings. It will open up 52,000 sqm of land in North East Bexhill for business development and housing and creating new jobs. The £56.85 million we are putting into this scheme shows that the Coalition Government is serious about investing in the infrastructure the country needs to drive economic growth.”
