Lions boost local charities

RYE and District Lions raised £1,865 with their annual Christmas collections outside three local supermarkets.

Conrad Freezer, from Rye Lions said: “We would like to thank the public for their very generous donations. The money will be donated over the coming months to various charities and good causes, many of them in the local area.

“Rye Lions would like to thank Andrew and Stephen Jempson for allowing them to collect outside their Peasmarsh store and also to thank the management of Jempsons Budgens at Rye and Hawkhurst. This was the first time Rye Lions had collected at Hawkhurst which now falls within their extended area.”

The Lions are not content to rest on their laurels, but are now busy finalising the arrangements for their sixth annual ‘Nearly Burns Night Concert’, at Beckley Village Centre.

The renowned Sussex Brass will be performing at the concert on Friday January 27 at 7.45pm. Proceeds from the concert will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Tickets are on sale at Beckley Motors or by telephone on 0845 244 9449 or at the door, at £6 to include an arrival refreshment.

The concert has been fully booked every year and the Lions advise getting tickets early.
