Lions' dinner and raffle fundraiser

In 1925 the late Helen Keller asked Lions Club International if they would be Knights of the Blind to which they agreed and that message has carried forward in 208 countries throughout the world over the last 91 years.

Burgess Hill District Lions with Helen Keller’s message in mind spoke to Philip Revis Chairman of 4Sight a support group for vision impaired and blind people locally.

Philip explained how they have to pay for hire of accommodation to hold their meetings but their funds were running low so we agreed to lay a special fund raising evening at the Shapla Traditional Indian & Bangladeshi Restaurant in London Road, Burgess Hill.

On the evening 40 people who had purchased tickets for a three course meal arrived and sat down to complementary Papadoms while this was happening two lovely young ladies sold raffle tickets.

The raffle and profit from the dinner tickets gave us a figure of £340 then a representative of the Mid Sussex Times & Gazette gave me a donation of £25 from his company and business men on his table also made further donations.

Then there was another surprise in store. Mutahar Hussain, son of the owner, made a generous donation of £120 so thank you every one final total was £500.
