Lions help Air Ambulance fly by night

RYE Lions are joining with other Lions groups in the South East to help the Sussex Air Ambulance fly by night.

Currently the Air Ambulance Service is unable to respond to life-saving incidents at night.

Lions Clubs have committed to raise £250,000 over the next 10 years to provide night flying facilities that will be essential to saving more lives in the future during the hours of darkness.

Adrian Bell, from the Air Ambulance, said “We are grateful to the Lions for their help in supporting our night flying campaign. This is a big step for the Air Ambulance and will help us considerably as we forge a path to operating by night and thus potentially saving many more lives “

A Lions spokesman said: “Lions clubs across the South East of England have supported air ambulance services for some years and have built up a wonderful working relationship with air ambulance personnel.

“Our mission is to help the less fortunate in the community through volunteering and this life-saving service fits perfectly with that mission.

“Therefore we are delighted to consolidate our efforts into this £250,000 initiative, which will act as the catalyst to the provision of air ambulance night flying capability across Sussex and Kent, thus saving many more lives”

Rye and District Lions have made two donations to the Air Ambulance in the past two years,
