Little Common Horticultural Society

The Society started the New Year with an informative talk by Michael Hoad on the subject of 'From Weald to Wallend'. The talk and slide show covered all the villages that share the River Rother from Rotherfield through to Rye. He talked about the historic architecture of the villages, points of interest and bygone industries as well as the present industry of Newbery cricket bats in Ashburnham. Some light-hearted stories of smugglers and the legend of St. Dunstan and the devil were also shared and Michael finished the talk with a poem from Patience Strong who in later life lived in Seddlescombe.

The next monthly meeting will be held on Friday 12th February at 7.15 p.m. and the speaker will be Charlie Bloom, RHS multi award winning designer and gardener with a talk on ‘Show Gardens’. Non-members always welcome so do come along. Visit our website www.lchs.co.uk for more information.
