Little Common WI well placed for prestigious triathlon trophy

LADIES from Little Common proved there's more to the WI than coffee mornings and charity sales.

Lost though Bexhill would be without those things, a group of athletes from the Little Common branch of the Women's Institution decided to tackle a new challenge - the WI 2010 triathlon.

So last week in South Cliff the hardy girls, who have already completed the swimming and walking thirds, gathered before cycling to Galley Hill and back as part of their 20 mile cycle ride before taking a well earned coffee in the garden of their Treasurer, Hilary Rhodes.

On hand to help them along their way, offer advice, and to ensure safe cycling were members of the Bexhill Wheelers and Classic Cycle Group.

A spokesman for the group said the idea came from the National Federation of the WI, adding: "Each WI has completed a five mile swim, a 20 mile cycle ride and a 50 mile walk or run.

"As they near the end of their endeavours Little Common WI is looking well placed to take the coveted Elizabeth Bell Trophy which will be awarded at next year's AGM to the WI with the highest proportion of their members taking part."

67 of Little Common WI's 75 members have taken part in the WI Tri.
