CAKES, cycling and books proved to be a successful combination when staff at a Littlehampton bank joined in a county-wide fund-raising effort.

The Barclays branch was one of a number visited by bank workers on a 77-mile cycle across West Sussex in aid of the Christie cancer hospital, in Manchester.

As well as refreshing the touring cyclists, the Littlehampton staff took turns to ride a static bike, inviting donations, and sold books and cakes to customers, raising £179.25, which was doubled by Barclays to £358.50.

Staff member Tanya Gibbins thanked everyone for their donations, and Virgin Active Rustington for the loan of the static bike.
