And the fight now has cross-party support, with the town council unanimously voting on Thursday to back the petition started by the Littlehampton Labour party.

Arcade traders stood shoulder to shoulder with Labour members, independent town councillor Malcolm Belchamber and Conservative town councillor Alan Gammon on Saturday, as more signatures were added to the petition, taking the total over the 1,000 mark.

Post Office management have announced a four-week period during which they are seeking expressions of interest from retailers to have the Littlehampton branch relocated from The Arcade into their premises.

The petition can now be signed at some of the shops in The Arcade, all week, as well as at Labour’s stall in High Street on Saturday mornings. It is hoped other shops will also take the petition.

Copies of the petition can be obtained from Mike, call 07744 988098, or visit the Littlehampton United Facebook page to print one off or to leave a message, asking for your name to be added.
