Littlehampton cadets praised for their dedication

DEDICATION, pride and good old fashioned hard work have been rewarded during an end-of-year awards ceremony praising the young cadets of the Littlehampton-based Nautical Training Corps (NTC) division, TS Implacable.

Parents and guests watched as a select batch of youngsters from TS Implacable were presented with their trophies at Wick Hall, Wick Street – capping yet another extraordinary year for the group, which has seen members take part in the Queen’s diamond jubilee and Olympic Games celebrations, among more than a dozen other events.

The awards evening was attended by the NTC’s Vice-Commodore Dennis Kilshaw, as well as Littlehampton’s mayor, Emma Neno, and Arun District Council chairman, councillor Ann Smee. Representatives from the Royal British Legion, Royal Naval Association, Fleet Air Arm Association and Littlehampton District Lions’ Club were also present.

They witnessed an impressive performance from the 20-strong cadet force, demonstrating their well-rehearsed routines,

Commanding officer Stuart Ginnaw led the proceedings and presented the trophies to Implacable’s top cadets and junior officers.

Victoria Berry, 14, proved to be one of the division’s high-fliers, yet again, earning the prestigious best cadet award, as well as best girl cadet, best overall bandsman and the uniform trophy.

Petty officer Mark Nicholls, 16, proved he was a crack shot, taking the marksman trophy. He also scooped the drill and deportment award and was named best senior boy cadet for the year.

Junior Seaman Abigail Ginnaw wasn’t far off the mark with her rifle skills, picking up the most improved marksman title.
