This year, the festival choir and orchestra will be ‘Full of Eastern Promise’ when they present their annual prom concert.

The evening will be held at St James the Great Church, in East Ham Road, Littlehampton, tomorrow (Saturday, September 13) from 7.30pm.

The choir, who will be dressed in colourful costumes, will be transporting the audience to eastern Europe, the Middle East, and even further afield during the evening performance.

Join the choir and orchestra as they aim to find the perfect balance for traditional and more modern numbers, dipping into faraway places with a variety of songs from China, Egypt, Hungary, India, Israel, Japan, Russia and Malaya.

Humorous moments will be provided by a pantomime camel with Stuart Caplin at the front and a brave fellow member risking bringing up the rear, and a sand dance performed by a troupe of the choristers.

The second part of the programme will follow the traditional Last Night of the Proms theme.

It will feature pieces from Kismet and all the usual favourites such as Rule, Britannia! and Jerusalem, as well as Sussex by the Sea.

Proceeds from the concert will go to Macmillan nurses.

Not content with just singing and performing concerts, the choir will have a stall at the Friday market on September 26 with donation tubs for Macmillan nurses, followed on the 27th with a coffee morning and autumn fayre in St James’s Church hall.

The choir rehearses every Wednesday, from 7.30pm, in St James Church hall, Littlehampton.

Musical director James Rushman said: “The emphasis is on having fun and being part of a singing family.”

Prospective new members are welcome to come along any Wednesday.

There are no auditions, just a quick voice test to determine which section of the choir a new member should join.
