Littlehampton club hears from Katy Bourne first-hand

Littlehampton Rotary president Mike Findlay welcomes Katy Bourne, Sussex PCC

Members were able to hear about her role first-hand and they said they were impressed with her 50-minute presentation.

Geoffrey Watts, press officer, said: “She explained that when she was elected three years ago, she was one of 41 police and crime commissioners in England and Wales.

“Katy explained she was the general public’s representative, although it is a difficult task to please all the 1.6million people of Sussex.

“The public had never had a chance to vote for, or influence, the police forces of the country but this is where the PCCs come in.

“Her main responsibility is to ensure that policing is giving value for money, according to the budget. The cost of policing in Surrey is the highest in the country but Sussex is actually the fourth lowest. The Metropolitan Police is funded directly by the Home Office.

“Katy was very open about her tasks and even went as far as informing her audience that she is paid £88,000 per annum for her duties and that she does not claim any expenses at all.”

The vote of thanks was given by Rotarian Geoff Watts.

Prior to the talk Jill Long, former Littlehampton town mayor, was inducted to membership of the Rotary club.
