With the Littlehampton District Camera Club now celebrating its 70th season, the first salvo of competition results have been announced.

And it certainly wasn’t an easy decision for one of the group’s judges, Roger Gilroy, with the standard of pictures proving impressive among the enprint category – which is mostly for beginners.

He had a total of 39 images, all on different subject matters, vying for top spot.

However, after much debate, the winning entry went to Tony Strelitz for his photo Through the Window – Tower Bridge.

Taken from a high vantage point and through a leaded window, Tony managed to capture pedestrians strolling across the bridge, continuing with their everyday life.

John Raymond was the runner-up with his colourful entry, What a Pansy, while Jeff Packham’s shot of a curious goldfinch earned him the third place.

The second competition of the night was The Summer Cup and was won by Sylvia Kislingbury.

Competitors battling for the cup had to take pictures based on five out of ten set categories from the previous season.

Camera club member Wendy Eve had to judge the 85 photos from the 17 entries.

Wendy eventually chose Sylvia’s panel for her varied array of pictures based on the subjects of night, red, shadow, rainy window and bus stop.

Following on from the successful opening competitions, camera club member John Raymond hoped this season would be one of the group’s best ones yet.

John said: “The 70th season is set to be a great season with extra competitions and a display in the museum in November.

“We have a beginners’ DSLR group run by Adrian who teaches everything from the technical to the artistic side of photography.

“This is a very popular class and has produced some great results for members.”

The group meets at the Methodist Church hall, in Claigmar Road, Rustington, every Wednesday, at 7.30pm.
