Littlehampton exhibition follows a fictional family

HEALTHY living is the inspiration behind a new exhibition in Littlehampton.

This year’s summer display at the Littlehampton Museum, in Church Street, has its sights set on getting more people to enjoy all the outdoor spoils the town has to offer.

Entitled A Clean Break, the exhibition follows in the footsteps of the fictional Rivers family, as they visit various outdoor attractions in Littlehampton.

The exhibit was organised by staff from the museum, in conjunction with Arun District Council, East Beach Café, Coastal Cycles and Littlehampton artist Jan Bennett, and launched at the end of last month.

Wonderful

Lucy Ashby, archives and exhibitions officer at the museum, said the display had already proven to be a popular attraction.

“On the opening day we had a great deal of children attending, which was brilliant,” she said.

“The Arun Well-being team provided us with a smoothie bike for the kids to try to pedal their way to their five-a-day.

“We also had an interactive bushcraft display from the Arun Forest Knights, which was enjoyed by children and parents alike.”

Lucy added that she was hoping the display would inspire more people to spend time outside this summer.

“Littlehampton has so many wonderful things to offer, it would just be nice for more people to come out and enjoy them,” she said.

The display gives a potted history of some of the town’s well-known outdoor areas, including Mewsbrook Park – which, prior to becoming the Mewsbrook Pleasure Grounds, in 1939, was a mosquito-invested swamp.

Councillor Alan Gammon, chairman of the town council’s community resources committee, said the display was a “brilliant idea”.

He added: “The journey of the Rivers family is one that I think is typical of a lot of visitors we have to our wonderful town.

“Hopefully, it will help inspire more people to use the town’s outdoor sites.”

The exhibition continues until Friday, September 7.
