GOLFERS in Littlehampton have putted the perfect sum for a hospice in Goring after a year-long fundraising drive.

Women at the Littlehampton Golf Club have united to raise a massive £2,249.25 for St Barnabas House hospice as part of the ladies’ captain Nikki Greenwood’s charity year.

They celebrated with a golf match, which ushered in the new captain, Jean Humphreys.

It was a hard-fought contest between Jean and her vice-captain, Diana Rooke, which resulted in a win for Diana’s team, with a score of 7-6.

Before the drive-in, Nikki, 52, of East Preston, handed over a cheque to Mary Bye, community fundraising officer for the hospice.

Nikki said: “St Barnabas House provides a great service to the community and I had no hesitation in choosing them as my charity for my captain’s year. They were able to help me and my late husband during a very difficult time and I was very grateful for their assistance.”

Cash was raised through holding coffee mornings, raffles, open days, as well as a Wear a Santa Suit Day held last December that raised £830. In addition, golf club member John Taylor-Stoakes ran sponsored marathons to raise further funds, contributing an additional £1,065.

Nikki thanked John and all the members for their ‘splendid efforts’.

Mary Bye was ‘very grateful’ to Nikki and the club for their support.

“The money raised will enable us to continue providing our care for our patients and their families both in the hospice and in the comfort of their own homes,” she said.
