Littlehampton group praised for ‘fantastic donation’

THE head of a leading charity which helps get injured firefighters back on their feet has praised a community group in Littlehampton for its ‘fantastic’ donation.

John Parry, chief executive of The Fire Fighters Charity, has championed the efforts of the Madeira Dancing and Singing Group, which donated £600 to the cause.

The charity, which has one of its flagship rehabilitation centres at Marine Court, in Fitzalan Road, Littlehampton, said the money would go towards the care of injured firefighters.

Mr Parry said: “Our huge thanks go to the Madeira Dancing and Singing Group for their generous donation. Fire fighting can be dangerous, stressful and traumatic.

“When firefighters like those at Littlehampton are injured, they can be in pain and unable to work for months. Dealing with life or death situations every day often takes its toll emotionally, too.

“Sometimes the deepest scars of fire fighting are those you cannot see.”

Maria Moniz, of the dancing and singing group, handed over the cash to Jeanne D’Amrio, from the charity, and Littlehampton firefighter crew manger Graham Lincoln on Wednesday (April 2).

Mr Parry said the charity’s support makes a ‘huge impact’ on firefighters’ lives.

Every year it helps more than 4,500 people, at a cost of £8million a year.

He added: “With no Government funding, we rely completely on your donations and goodwill. This fantastic £600 donation from the Madeira Dancing and Singing Group will help us keep firefighters fit, healthy and happy so they can continue saving lives.”
