The shop, in Surrey Street, was a hive of activity as workers and customers alike united to take part in an afternoon of fun, last Wednesday (August 21).

Some of the store’s employees transformed into superheroes, while others took a slightly different approach – shedding not only their work uniforms but their body hair, too.

Brave Peter Legg endured a 20-minute chest waxing session conducted by James Jarvis, of Philip’s Barbershop, in Surrey Street.

Speaking during the waxing, Peter said: “I’m feeling all right. It’s not too painful.”

There were plenty of other sites to see during the event, including face-painting for children, a sponsored indoor cycle ride and a raffle.

Courageous Littlehampton girl Kailie Lamb, ten, took a plunge in a bath full of gunge, sponsored by Inspire Baths.

The White Meadows pupil slipped into the bath, filled with bread, water and tomato sauce and let friends and family pour baked beans over her head.

She said the slime was ‘disgusting’ but that she was proud she had endured the bath to raise fund for worthy causes.

The charity week was in aid of Iceland’s chosen good causes, Alzheimer’s Research UK, Prostate Cancer UK and blindness charity for young people, Vision 4 Children.

Some of the money will also go towards a local charity, which the company is urging townsfolk to select.

Sandra Hampton, duty manager at the store, said: “The atmosphere was electrifying.

“Everyone was really up for raising money for charity. We’re hoping to raise about £1,000. Ten per cent of this will then go to supporting a local charity.”
