Littlehampton is coolest - "style bible" says so

SUNNY Littlehampton has put its illustrious Sussex neighbour Brighton in the shade '“ by being named the UK's coolest seaside resort.

The style bible's accolade came as one of the main reasons for the recognition moved a step nearer completion.

The latest section of international designer Thomas Heatherwick's East Beach Caf has been delivered to its site alongside the Promenade.

With its flowing, sculptural lines, the caf is described by Vogue as "an architectural marvel" which "will have beach lovers travelling from far and wide all year round".

The magazine's December issue lists "who, what and where is cool in 2007", and as well as Littlehampton's elevation as the "hippest" seaside spot, baseball caps, kebabs, loafers and jelly shoes feature in the trendy roll of honour.

As well as the caf, Vogue points to Littlehampton's other attractions, including luxury waterfront homes beside the River Arun, and the Regency-style Beach Crescent apartments.

Jane Wood, owner of the East Beach Caf, which she will run with her daughter Sophie Murray, welcomed the recognition.

"I understand cool as meaning innovative and exciting, not a flash in the pan.

"Really good design and innovation is based on something more solid than a passing trend, and I think Vogue see that.

"It's just brilliant that Littlehampton is getting this publicity."

l Littlehampton Town Coun-cil will be screening a BBC documentary on Thomas Heatherwick at the New Millennium Chamber, Manor House, Church Street, on Monday at 7pm. Admission is free.
