Littlehampton lane litter-free after clean-up

A team of volunteers from Arun District Council and West Sussex County Council have cleaned Sunken Lane, between Manning Road and Wick Farm Road, of fly-tipping, and are in the process of transforming it into a open space for all to enjoy.

The land, owned by West Sussex, had been at the centre of ownership negotiations between the two councils, for the last two years.

Arun cabinet member for the environment, Paul Dendle, said: “I am very pleased Arun has been able to work with West Sussex County Council on this project.

“The council is keen to ensure that all areas of Arun are clean and safe for residents.

“By calling for this clean-up on Sunken Lane, I believe we have gone some way to achieving this aim.”

The county council has agreed to manage the area in future, adding it to grass cutting schedules, and speaking to local schools about community planting events.

Deputy leader of the county council, Lionel Barnard, who is responsible for communities and the environment, said: “This is another example of partnership working delivering a real benefit for a local community. I am sure this new open space will be welcomed by local residents.”
