Littlehampton lifeboats receive 100th call of the year

LITTLEHAMPTON lifeboats broke a record on Saturday (October 17) when were called out for the 100th time this year.

The crew was called at about 11am, to assist a 6.4m cruiser that had had electrical problems and broken down off the coast of Goring on its way to Shoreham. It was towed back to Littlehampton harbour, by volunteers Ollie Clark, Andy Harris and Lee Cullen.

Nick White, volunteer lifeboat operations manager, said: "One hundred calls is a bit special, it is a record for us, and this year amongst the more routine tasks have been some shouts under very challenging conditions, or when the casualties were in serious danger."

Last year, between January and December, the crews were called just 85 times.

Nick added: "We have a dedicated team at Littlehampton who put a great deal of time into their training and are always willing to respond when they are needed."
