Littlehampton ‘milers’ wanted for the big day

THE race is under way to recruit 1,000 people to take part in the 2012 Sainsbury’s Littlehampton Sport Relief Mile.

This year’s fun run/walk was launched on Thursday, with the aim of raising at least £20,000 for Sport Relief’s work to combat poverty in the UK and in some of the world’s poorest countries.

It takes place on Sunday, March 25, following a one-mile route around The Green, taking in Arun Parade, the Promenade and South Terrace, with the option of one-mile, three-mile or six-mile distances.

Organiser Andy McTaggart held the first bi-annual Sport Relief Mile in 2008, limited to just 100 people, but with 140 ultimately joining in. Two years ago all 500 places were snapped up a fortnight in advance and an impressive £12,000 was raised from entry fees and sponsorship.

This year’s event will start outside Harbour Park, in Arun Parade, and Andy thanked the amusement complex for supporting the fun run.

People of all ages are welcome to take part, including families with pushchairs, and registration is now open on the Sport Relief website,

Andy said: “From teeny-tots with their mums and dads, to super sprinters up against the clock, there’s something for everyone on the big day.”
