Littlehampton mum wins award for determination

WITH enough determination you can achieve anything, as a Littlehampton mum-of-two has proved.

Helen Ansell, of Linnet Close, has won an award for finishing her English access course, at Brighton and Hove City College, despite her partner of 17 years, Nigel, tragically dying part way through.

She said she was really proud to have been presented with the University of Brighton Award for Widening Participation in Higher Education.

“It meant a lot to me to be told that it really was an achievement, because you don’t think that when you’re in the middle of it all,” said the 38-year-old.

Nigel was only 48 when he suffered a heart attack.

“It was a horrible time,” said Helen.

“It’s been the most difficult year of my life.

“I had to go back to work full-time, and looking after the children, I missed a few weeks of college.

“But college is the only thing I had done for myself in such a long time, and I knew I would never get another chance.”
