Littlehampton Museum will be full of Roman revelry

The town’s museum, in Church Street, will be kicking-off its four Roman-themed events for youngsters from Tuesday (May 26) until Friday (May 29).

During the sessions the young historians will be able to discover the secrets of the Roman Empire’s reign of Britain almost 2,000 years ago, in two Life as a Roman sessions.

But the action won’t just stop there, children will also be able to get hands-on during a couple of colourful mosaic making mornings.

Peter Herbert, town clerk, said: “It’s always great to see children enjoying themselves in their local museum. There is a rich history of Roman settlements in this area, and I know the topic will be a popular one.”

All the sessions will be entirely free of charge and are designed for children aged between five and 13.

However, children under the age of eight should be accompanied by an adult.

The Life as a Roman events will be held on Tuesday, from 2pm to 3.30pm and Thursday (May 28), from 3pm to 4.30pm.

Mosaic making will take place at an earlier time, on Wednesday, from 10am to 11am, and Friday, from 11am to midday.

As well as this, the museum is also hosting a special exhibition at the Community Gallery this half-term which is unveiling the wealth of archaeological discoveries unearthed at the new Courtwick Lane development.
