Littlehampton Museum’s drive for top displays recognised

Museum staff take pride in producing top-quality displays

Following a lengthy inspection by a panel of judges, the town’s museum, in Church Street, was granted a full accreditation – making it one of the UK’s top museums.

The accolade is only presented to the museums which demonstrate their commitment to managing collections and offering top service to visitors.

Councillor Malcolm Belchamber, chairman of the Littlehampton Town Council’s community resources committee, said: “Everyone at the town council is extremely proud to have achieved such a high standard for the museum service in Littlehampton. It’s something the town can be rightly proud of.”

The Museum Registration Scheme was established in 1988, and Littlehampton Museum became a registered museum in 1994.

In 2004, the scheme was renamed ‘Accreditation’. Since then, it has led the way in raising museum standards in the UK, and has been used as a model and source of inspiration for similar schemes overseas.

Almost 1,800 museums across the country are involved in the accreditation process, run by ACE.
