Littlehampton police support Children’s Society

POLICE in Littlehampton donated £250 to help support the town’s branch of the Children’s Society.

The much-needed funds were handed over during a brief ceremony outside the Manor House, in Church Street, as part of the Police Property Act Fund, a scheme which can provide grants to aid local community groups.

The Littlehampton section of the charity plays a key role in supporting youngsters across West Sussex, many of whom are in care homes or suffer with disabilities.

Maria Lonergan, programme manager for the charity, based at the Dairy Community Centre, in Church Street, said: “We’re so grateful to Sussex Police for presenting us with this cheque.

“It is our job to get the children involved in the community – to have them actively participating in events.

“We help them with interviews.

“We enable them to have a voice in the community.

“This money will help us organise a county-wide event to help recognise some of those children who have been so special.”

PCSO Margaret Walker, who handed over the cheque, said: “I do believe in the community grants.

“It’s my opinion that we should do as much as we can to help promote some of the worthwhile community groups, in the area.”

Former Littlehampton town councillor, David Jones, has volunteered at the group for 10 years and helped organise the grant.

He said: “This group is a wonderful charity that works so hard to help support young people in Sussex.”
