Littlehampton set for waterfront festival bonanza

LITTLEHAMPTON is bracing itself for a storm of visitors as the town ushers in its annual Waterfront Festival on Sunday (June 23).

The waterfront will be teeming with activity at the event with a host of attractions to entertain people of all ages promised.

The bonanza, organised by Littlehampton Harbour Board in conjunction with traders and townsfolk, is set to feature everything from rides along the River Arun, to a visit from one of the Royal Navy’s patrol vessels, HMS Ranger.

But to add to the excitement of the day, Littlehampton’s harbour master Billy Johnson has hinted that, if the weather is good, the town will be welcoming a special guest onto the Arun.

Billy said: “The harbour will host a number of activities on Sunday including visits from Royal Navy patrol vessel HMS RANGER, RNLI all-weather lifeboats from Selsey and Shoreham as well as a search and rescue demonstration by the coastguard helicopter.

“But, if the weather is kind to us we also intend to land a seaplane in the harbour – something not seen in a number of years.”

Other spectacles taking place in the river will include a 1.5km swim, organised by Raw Energy Pursuits, as well as races arranged by Arun Canoes and Kayaks, and a small flotilla of dinghies courtesy of the Arun Youth Aqua Centre.
