The Littlehampton branch of Sainsbury’s has adopted Crossroads Care South Central as its charity partner for the next 12 months.

Based in Climping, Crossroads , through its adult services, supports people with a wide range of conditions, including 30 families in the Littlehampton and Arundel area and 873 across West Sussex.

However, many more are receiving little or no help – according to the 2011 census, more than 26,000 people in the county provide unpaid care for more than 20 hours a week.

Crossroads chief executive Eric Geddes said: “We desperately need to reach out to those carers, many of whom do probably not even consider themselves a ‘carer’ and give them support and a much-needed break.

“Most of us juggle busy lives, but those who also look after a relative or friend who is ill, frail or disabled, find it extremely difficult to have a life of their own.

“There are households within West Sussex, including Littlehampton, who could benefit from our services, but without additional council funding, we cannot reach all those who require help.

“We are delighted that Sainsbury’s has chosen us as its Charity of the Year and look forward to joint fundraising initiatives that will directly benefit carers in Littlehampton.”
