“I went for my training on July 20 at Twickenham Stadium, then on August 8, I went for some more training at the Amex Stadium, Brighton’s community stadium, and picked up my volunteer uniform and my accreditation pass.

“I am a member of the spectator services team. My role will be at the Brighton stadium on September 19, when South Africa play Japan, and on September 20, when Samoa play the USA.

“I will welcome and help the spectators, either at Falmer railway station, en route, inside the stadium, or through the bag checking area. We will be rotated so I should be helping in all areas.”

When she helped at the Olympics, she was a volunteer working in accreditation.

“I met and had my photo taken with the Queen’s granddaughter, Zara Phillips, who was so nice and thanked me for being a volunteer,” she recalled. “This was an amazing time which I shall never forget.

“I am really looking forward to the Rugby World Cup and, of course, I shall be rooting for England.

“I saw the ‘then team’ during the parade in London after they won the world cup in 2003. I am sure we can do it again, with a home crowd behind them to help.

“I shall be doing my very best to ensure a wonderful weekend of world cup rugby is to be had by all spectators and, as Helen Sharman, Britain’s first astronaut said, I shall seize the moment.”
