The High Street became the base of some stunning festive shenanigans as the Littlehampton Carnival Association kicked off its Christmas Fun Day.

And as ever, one of the most popular attractions proved to be Santa’s grotto, which was based at Hunnies Café, with Father Christmas this year being visited by well over 200 excited youngsters.

Freda Hughes, president of the carnival association, said children were hanging on Santa’s every word – perhaps a little too much on certain occasions.

She said: “There was one little three-year-old girl who want into the grotto.

“Father Christmas said to her to take a seat – and that’s exactly what she did.

“She just picked up the seat and walked out with it. That really tickled me.”

This year’s festivities were opened by Littlehampton mayor Jill Long and featured a bumper list of entertainment, all staged by carnival committee member Staci Mendoza.
