Littlehampton’s ex-harbour board vice-chairman is fined

FORMER Littlehampton Harbour Board vice-chairman Robert Boyce has been fined £2,000 and ordered to pay £15,000 costs for building a wall without permission along a short stretch of the harbour’s west bank.

Mr Boyce, 49, and his wife Fiona, 38, the owners of Littlehampton Yacht Club, were found guilty of allowing the construction work to go ahead without a licence from Government agency, the Marine Management Organisation.

Both had denied the charges at an earlier hearing at Chichester Magistrates’ Court and the case was concluded at Horsham Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday (December 3).

The district judge found both defendants guilty. He said that Mr Boyce, who acted as a consultant on the works, had taken a ‘calculated risk’ in proceeding with the work without a licence.

Mrs Boyce received a 12-month conditional discharge, with £15,000 costs. Both were also ordered to pay a £15 victim fee.
