Littlehampton’s glorious gardens rewarded

Private and communal gardens, schools and businesses were competing for trophies and prizes which were presented at a ceremony at the New Millennium Chamber in the Manor House.

There was double success for Daphne Mayhead, of Griffin Crescent, Wick, who received the Rob & Sal’s Tattoo Studio Cup for best smaller rear garden, and also won the best smaller front garden award.

St Mary’s Primary School, Climping, won the best school category.

Certificates of commendation were awarded to Mary Morris, of Maltravers Drive, and hair and beauty salon Ahead to Toe.

Judging this year was by town mayor Alan Gammon, John Stevens (Ockendens), Mark Everson (past organiser of Arun in Bloom), Alan Humphrey (Town Show manager) and David Twinn of the Littlehampton Companions’ Club.

The main sponsors were Fairhaven Plants, who gave prize vouchers to be spent at their garden centre in Toddington Lane, Littlehampton, and also Towing Spare and F A Holland & Son.

The mayor congratulated all the winners on their success. “The standard of gardening skills is outstanding and as a town we should all be really proud of these amazing green-fingered residents.”
