Littlehampton’s kings of the castles

IF sandcastle making was an Olympic sport, there would have been gold medals galore awarded on Littlehampton’s beach.

The town council’s annual sandcastle competition attracted scores of children, and the Olympics were clearly still firmly in their minds, with two of the three winning entries featuring the games.

Under-11 winner Lauren Green used pebbles and flowers to give the colour of the five Olympic rings in her design, while over-11 winners Alfie, Archie and George also included the rings, together with a torch and all the medals won by Team GB.

Ruby Maslin won the under-fives categorty with a more traditional approach, her castle enhanced by the addition of pretty flowers.

Town mayor Emma Neno and Harbour Park mascot Sandy Castle had the task of judging the entries and presented the winners with their prizes, which were donated by Action Boat, Littlehampton Railway and Harbour Park.

Free buckets were given out to those taking part, and there was entertainment, too, with a Punch and Judy show for families to enjoy.
