Littlehampton’s new mayor Emma off to a flying start

SUMO suits, supercars and splendid sunshine helped Littlehampton’s new town mayor, Emma Neno, raise a record-breaking £7,000 for charity – just days after accepting her chain of office.

At just 34, Emma had already claimed the record as Littlehampton’s youngest mayor, when she was elected during the annual town council meeting in the New Millennium Chamber at the Manor House, on Thursday (May 24).

Two days later, mum-of-two Emma raised more than £6,500 during a special track day at Goodwood Motor Circuit for Chichester-based charity, Cancerwise, on Saturday (May 26) and a further £500 for her other nominated good cause, Home-Start Arun, at a Zumbathon, on Sunday (May 27).

Her weekend charity exploits were certainly more hectic than the formal mayor-making ceremony on Thursday (May 24) when Emma gave her first speech as town mayor. She said she was “honoured” and “privileged” to receive the chain of office.

“Since being elected onto the town council in 2007, I have had the privilege to serve the residents of Littlehampton in my capacity as a councillor.

“Throughout this time, I have always tried to do my best for our town; a town where I have grown up, where I went to school, where I am raising my two children and where I am now very proud to lead as mayor.”

She added: “We have a very special and exciting year ahead, which sets the perfect, optimistic tone for the next 12 months. It is perfect for my year’s theme of celebration.”
