Littlehampton’s sandcastle challenge

CREATING splendid castles fit for royalty will be the task for this year’s sandcastle competition.

Littlehampton’s annual sandcastle contest will take place on Monday, August 8, near the East Beach Café.

Organised by Littlehampton Town Council, with support of radio station Spirit FM, the competition will offer prizes, thanks to Harbour Park, Inspire Leisure, Littlehampton Railway and Action Boat, in three categories: under-fives, under-11s and over-11s.

A spokeswoman for the town council said: “You can enter as a group or individually and must only use natural materials found on the beach.

“We want you to be as creative as possible so that we impress our special judges, town mayor Alan Gammon and Sandy the Harbour Park mascot.”

Spirit FM will be broadcasting live from the event, and the town council will be giving away free buckets to participants, on a first-come first-serve basis.

Joyce Bowyer, chairman of the town council community resources committee, said: “This is a fantastic event for Littlehampton, as it brings families together to enjoy a great seaside pastime.”

Registrations will start from 11am with the competition starting at about noon.
