Local dentist prepares for marathon challenge

Local dentist Marc Annals will run the London Marathon this weekend for the third time.

Equally impressively, Marc's wife Jackie will also be running for the third time.

They both run numerous 10K and half marathons, and in 2003 Marc also completed the Loch Ness Marathon. Jackie will be raising funds for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Marc has chosen to run to raise funds for the son of a member of staff at Strand Dental practice. Max is the son of one the practice hygienists and he has Cerebral Palsy.

Max is three and a half years old. His disability means he is unable to walk without aids, and even that is very difficult for him.

His favoured means of getting around is crawling, but the older he gets the more apparent it is that this is simply not practical.

Max attends a specialist Cerebral Palsy Centre in Chertsey twice a week and they have now suggested Max would benefit immensely from having a specialist wheelchair. This would enable him to become more mobile and thus increase his independence.

Many patients, friends and family have sponsored Marc and it looks as though Charlotte and Alistair, Max's parents, will be able to order the wheelchair very soon.

They are extremely grateful to all the people who have given their support so willingly and have been moved by everyone's generosity.

They will be there next Sunday, with Max and all the family, to cheer Marc and Jackie through the 26.2 miles.
