Local message in new police campaign

A NEW campaign has been launched to show residents that local policing is back in their town, city and village.

The campaign '“ which goes live this week '“ features leaflets being delivered to thousands of homes and local "branding" of police vehicles and uniforms.

West Downs Divisional commander Chief Superintendent Mark Streater said: "Our aim is to provide a service that is truly local. The names will make it clear to all, exactly who we are and who we serve."

This week, cards are being delivered or made available to all residents explaining who their local police are, and how they can be contacted.

Police uniforms and vehicles are being marked with their local town names, to reflect the change to a more localised service.

Police vehicles and jackets worn by officers will be marked Adur.

Increasing numbers of police community support officers are playing a major role in delivering a more visible service on the streets.

Police stations have been revitalised, opening later and longer with police neighbourhood support officers on hand to provide an improved customer service.
