Local protest over coal fire power stations

A DEMONSTRATION was held in Devonshire Square on Saturday protesting against plans for a coal power station in Kent.

From 11am members of the Bexhill and Hastings World Development Movement gave out flyers and asked passers by to sign cards addressed to Ed Miliband, Minister for Energy and Climate Change, asking him to block plans for a coal power station at Kingsnorth.

Denis Lucey, chairman of Bexhill and Hastings WDM, said: "It's Ed Miliband's decision whether to go ahead with this or not. We are saying coal is the worst pollutant on the planet, and this station would be the first in a new wave of coal power stations in this country, causing huge emissions of carbon.
