Lodger stole from landlady's house

A LODGER stole £730 of goods, including designer perfume and a games console, when he was left home alone.

Darren Clarke, 36, was staying at an address in North Road, Sidley, when his landlady noticed the items had gone missing.

Between August 29 and September 16, Clarke had made off with a Nintendo Wii games console and controller, Calvin Klein and DKNY perfume, 100 cash and a laptop computer, Hastings Magistrates Court was told.

Clarke previously lived in an address in Calgary Road, Bexhill, but was thrown out.

Sometime between August 27-30, Clarke returned to the house and let himself in with his key before pocketing 50 of change from a TV rent box.

Clarke pleaded guilty to one charge or burglary and one charge of theft at a court hearing last Friday.

He also admitted breaching his bail conditions by failing to sign on at Bexhill Police Station and not living at the address given to the court.

Clarke has a list of 23 previous convictions for 51 offences, many of these for matters of dishonesty.

The defence asked for an adjournment so a report could be prepared.

Clarke was remanded in custody.
