London lines blocked after another hole appears in tracks

A hole is causing major disruption to trains travelling to and from London for the second time in as many weeks, Network Rail has said.

The rail service provider said a small 30cm hole was discovered under the tracks near Forest Hill at around 3am today (Thursday August 4).
Engineers are on site assessing the damage and carrying out repairs.
Southern Rail said lines between Norwood Junction and London Bridge have been blocked. The disruption is expected to last until 6pm.

A spokesman for Southern said: “As a safety measure, some lines towards London Bridge have been closed.

“Some services have been cancelled. Others may be delayed or diverted away from London Bridge.

“Stations between Anerley and New Cross Gate cannot be served in the London bound direction. Customers who require these stations should travel to London Bridge and change there or use London Buses in the area.

“Southern tickets are being accepted on Thameslink, Southeastern, Croydon Tramlink, London Buses, and London Underground services.”

The hole is the second to appear in the area over the past couple of weeks.
