Longest-living resident celebrates

A special tea party marked the 100th birthday of a woman who has lived in a Pagham home longer than any other resident.

The celebration at Kings Haven saw Doris Gibson joined by her fellow 43 residents and members of staff.

She moved into the home in Kings Drive in 1991. No one else can match her longevity there in a building which dates from the early 1980s.

She said: "I have a lot of fun and enjoy meeting people. I don't think I'm 100 today. I feel only 90."

Lively Doris reads the Daily Telegraph each day and enjoys a glass of whisky most evenings.

She is always the last person in the residential home to go to bed.

Among her favourite activities are talking about the Royal Family, watching TV comedies such as Only Fools And Horses and all forms of musical entertainment.

She has her hair done every week and always chats to other residents, staff and visitors.

Her friendly and happy character makes her a favourite with the home's workers.

Doris was born in Kenilworth in Warwickshire and is believed to have lived in Leamington Spa for some years.

She left school when she was 13. Her main jobs were working as a catering and domestic assistant at the House of Lords and in London hotels with her late husband.

The couple did not have any children. She was widowed in 1991 and is not known to have any relatives.
