The guest of honour was Her Majesty’s Lieutenant for West Sussex, Mrs Susan Pyper who was accompanied by her husband. The Officer Commanding Sussex Wing ATC, Wing Commander Kevin Tucker was in attendance.

The Lord Lieutenant, herself a former member of the RAF, presented the awards and gave a stimulating and amusing speech. This highlighted episodes in her RAF career and she emphasised the many benefits she saw from membership of a disciplined youth organisation such as the Air Cadets.

Wing Commander Tucker responded to her speech and nominated 1015 (Horsham) Squadron for the prestigious Lees Trophy competition. If successful in winning the trophy, the squadron could be deemed to be the best Air Cadet unit in the country.

The Commanding Officer of 1015 (Horsham) Squadron Flight Lieutenant Luke Yates said “It was a momentous evening, both for the presence of the Lord Lieutenant and for the honour of being nominated for the Lees Trophy. This recognised the considerable efforts and achievements of all the cadets during the year“.
