Lorry collision near Polegate

THE DRIVER of a recovery truck towing an HGV swerved to avoid a car and collided with a hedge near Polegate.

Police said the incident happened at 11.35am on the Lewes Road at Wilmington today, July 25.

The truck was heading west when the driver saw an oncoming car – and he swerved and lost control, according to police.

Fortunately the driver was not injured. But the road was closed until 1.30pm after the vehicles were recovered.

Queueing traffic was reported in both directions between the A2270 Polegate By-Pass junction and the Wilmington Street junction and the A27 Lewes Road in Polegate was partially blocked.
