Lucky escape after pile-up

A resident of a Bognor Regis road had a lucky escape from an accident outside his home.

The man was sitting behind his front window in Ockley Road when a vehicle came to rest just inches from the property.

The collision happened at about 11pm on Sunday, July 20.

It is believed that a driver lost control of a car after he clipped a parked car.

He then drove into a van with enough force to cause it to mount the car behind, which came to rest close to the house.

After the crash, a 19year old male from Bognor was arrested by police for failing to stop at an accident and on suspicion of drink driving. He has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Local resident Kevin Murphy said: "This comes just a week after new planning permission was put in to develop the old Hall Signs site situated on what is regarded by most as the most dangerous corner in Bognor which the council still refuses to do anything about with some sort of traffic calming scheme."

David Dear has applied to Arun District Council to demolish the existing building and replace it with six one bedroom flats. A previous application to develop the site was refused by Arun District Council.
