Lucky pup saved by Littlehampton lifeboat crew

A SPRINGER spaniel named Teddy is safe and well thanks to the efforts of an RNLI lifeboat crew in Littlehampton.

Alerted by a 999 call to the coastguard on Saturday (July 11) at 4.55pm the D class lifeboat and volunteer crew sprung into action with the help of Teddy’s owner to save the struggling animal.

Fighting against the strong currents at the entrance of Littlehampton harbour, the inshore rescue boat took the dog walker from the waters edge onto the boat to aid the rescue attempt.

Once safely plucked from the water Teddy was returned to its owner and is said to be fine after his ordeal, an RNLI spokesman added.

Both were returned to solid ground by the inshore rescue boat and lifeboat.

The lifeboat returned to the station at 5.11pm and was made ready for service once more.

A charity dedicated to saving lives at sea, the volunteers provide a 24-hour service from 236 lifeboat stations across the UK and Republic of Ireland.
