A RETIRED aircraft fitter died of an asbestos-related disease after more than a decade of working with the fibre, and inquest has heard.

Leonard John Eccleshall (79) of Christchurch Crescent, Bognor Regis, joined the Navy when he was 18 and worked as a stoker for seven years, working with asbestos-lagged pipes. He then worked as a reserve for five years. He has been diagnosed with the condition mesothelioma which has deteriorated and he died at St Wilfrid's Hospice on December 28.
