Luxury on eight floors

TRANSFORMATION of the southern end of Sackville Road with luxury flats could start this summer.

But if Sea Space regeneration plans for the Metropole putting green had gone ahead a far less ambitious project would have resulted, developer Hamayun Khan has confirmed.

Only now that the Government-funded hotel project has been dropped in the face of public opposition can Mr Khan's Kingston Homes group go ahead with a 22 million development on the east side of Sackville Road.

It will consist of restaurants and flats topped with a pair of 600,000-plus seventh-floor penthouses featuring lounges with 40ft Channel panoramas.

His eight-floor proposal for restaurants and flats on the west side of the road comes before Rother planners on May 26.

Already, residents in Cornwall Road fear their homes will be overlooked.

But previous applicants were given planning permission for a seven-storey block in 1989 and both the developer and his agent, Darran Cohen, senior branch manager of Ward and Partners, believe the development will pull adjoining house prices up rather than depress them.
